Field Guide
Choose an exercise. Take it outside.
Start with ten minutes and a place you can reach easily. A notebook or phone is enough.
Stand still
01 / Look
Pause somewhere safe for two minutes. Look high, then low. Find one detail you missed while moving. Describe it before photographing it.
Read the street
02 / Follow
Look for a survey marker, a wayfinding arrow, or a faded business sign. Record the visible lettering and its surroundings. Research the mark later without disturbing it.
Make a sound map
03 / Listen
Draw a dot for where you are standing. Add the sounds around it, placing each roughly in its direction. Wait a minute, then add what changes.
Find a repeating detail
04 / Collect
Choose a subject such as stickers, doorways, or neon. Make five photographs along one public route. Compare what stays consistent and what surprises you.
Leave objects and markers in place. Respect private property and photograph from safe public access.
